Hand-sewn Wilton rug fabrication
Prism specializes in high end woven rug fabrication. Our craftsman are well versed in the many different sewing techniques which ensures the highest quality seams possible.
All of our seams are sealed and hand sewn. The corners are mitered. The edges are hand bound with a heavy cotton binding. The last step is to block the finished rug to insure that it lays flat. Prism will then provide a dura-hold pad cut to fit, deliver and spread the rug.
Measuring and material layouts:
Prism will measure and provide the materials required to complete your project. We provide scaled floor plans and seaming diagrams.
For large shaped handmade rugs, leave it to Prism to make a perfect template, ship it to the mill, receive it, and professionally spread it over a dura-hold pad cut to fit. We have handled and spread rugs as large as 40′ x 75′.
Fabric bordered area rugs
Prism will hand bind your rug edges with leather, suede, cotton, linen, and chenille.. We will also strip your own 54″ wide fabric and use it to bind the edges of the rugs.
Prism will attach decorative furniture tacks around the perimeter of any rug (see photos). Decorative tacks can also be used on stairways as seen in our gallery.
Wall to wall installation:
Prism has VERY experienced carpet installers. Our men are highly trained to work with all types of carpet. They are experts in all aspects of carpet installation. Difficult pattern matching is no problem for our crews.
Cotton and wool woven runners
We are very familar with fabricating and installing wool and cotton woven runners from mills like Woodard and Greenstein, Elizabeth Eakins, Studio Four, and Dash and Albert.
Carved and inlayed rugs:
Prism was a pioneer in the industry of carved and inlayed area rugs. We will custom make any rug, any size, in almost any pattern. Our V-cut and bas-relief sculpturing is the best in the world.
Cut to fit and shaped rugs and runners
Prism will cut and hand bind or hand serge shaped rugs and runners on site to insure a proper fit.
Prism uses a cold water extraction system that is very friendly to your wool carpets and eliminates the worry of shrinking as with a steam extraction.
Prism will either apply stain protection in our shop or come to your project and apply stain protection to your valuable floor covering. We apply stain protection to area rugs and wall to wall carpeting. .
Hand serged edges
We hand serge any carpet with cotton serging tape. We hand serge handknotted and handtufted rugs.

Daniel Gauger (principal) began work as a carpet installer’s helper over fifty years ago aged fourteen. He worked for his father’s company for a decade, before beginning his own company at age twenty-four. Over the next few decades Mr. Gauger’s company grew his business and began to specialize in custom area rugs. In time Mr. Gauger learned the art of bas-relief carpet sculpturing and became one of, if not, the best in the world. His rugs and wall hangings adorn homes all over the country. Later, Mr. Gauger’s company expanded their specialty work to include fabricating high end historic recreation rugs for many of the famous historic sites in the area. His work is found in the White house, The Blair House, Mt Vernon, Montpelier, Montecello and many, many more.
